What a lace-up does that a strap cannot.
A strap tightens in one place. Laces tighten along the whole cuff, which holds the wrist in line with the forearm rather than pinching it at a single band. That alignment is what stops the wrist folding on a bad angle, and it is why lace-ups have stayed the standard in professional corners.
Hand protection
Nine ounces per glove. The padding is layered: a firmer base across the knuckles to spread impact, a softer top layer to absorb it. It is pre-curved, so the foam stays over the knuckles when the fist is closed instead of shifting off them. The thumb seam and the lace channel are both reinforced.
Italian leather
Full-grain, not corrected and not coated. It breaks in to the shape of the hand and stays supple, where coated hide and synthetics stiffen and crack.
Open finger, open palm
The finger openings are cut and reinforced so you can grip, frame and clinch. The palm is left open, so heat escapes and the glove dries between sessions.

Questions
Everything people ask before they buy their first pair of lace-ups.
Why laces instead of velcro?
Velcro pulls tight at one band across the wrist. Everything above and below that band is unsupported, and the hook loses grip as it fills with sweat and lint, so the strap you set at the start of a session is not the strap you have at the end of it.
Laces pull the cuff in along its whole length. The wrist is held in line with the forearm, the tension does not migrate, and it stays where you set it for the full session.
How do I get them on by myself?
Lace them loosely at home once and leave them laced. After that you loosen the top third, slide your hand in, pull the two centre laces and tie off. Most people do it one-handed within a week.
For hard sparring, get a partner or coach to pull them. A second set of hands gets the tension noticeably tighter than you can on your own — which is the point of a lace-up.
Will they fit me?
There are two sizes, S/M and L/XL, not one universal size. The lacing then fine-tunes the fit within whichever size you take, so the glove closes around your hand rather than around an average.

Can I spar and hit the bag in them?
Yes, both. The padding is layered and pre-curved for repeated contact, and the lace-up cuff is the reason — wrist support is what fails first on bag work.
Can I grapple in them?
Yes. The fingers are free and the palm is open, so you can grip, frame, post and clinch. The finger openings are reinforced so the leather does not bunch when you close your hand on a collar or a wrist.
Will the laces catch or scratch my partner?
No. The laces are soft and sit flat in a recessed channel down the back of the cuff, below the striking surface. Tuck the tied ends under the last cross — the same thing you would do with a boxing lace-up.
Do I still wear wraps underneath?
For bag and pad work, yes. Wraps hold the small bones of the hand together and the glove does not do that job.
For light technical sparring most people go without, because the laced cuff already locks the wrist and wraps add bulk in the palm you do not want when you are gripping.
How do I look after the leather?
Wipe them down after every session, unlace and open the cuff, and dry them away from direct heat. Never soak them, never put them in a machine, and never leave them sealed in a gym bag — that is what kills leather, not training.
A light conditioner every month or two keeps full-grain supple for years.

This one is a stock run, not a made-to-order custom glove, so it is returnable for change of mind: unused and in original packaging within 30 days of delivery. Faulty, damaged or incorrect items are covered either way and we pay the return postage. Start a return at support@fivestarboxing.com.
What happens when the 30 pairs are gone?
This colourway does not come back. The next FTR run carries a different mark on the cuff.
